Thanksgiving weekend engagement session at Island Lake was a first for me. No one has wanted to go there before and I’m glad these two were willing to have the adventure. We started walking and founds spots that were quite interesting and I almost lost my boots in the mud trying to get some of these shots, but we managed just fine with minimal dirt. I look forward to doing more journalistic engagement sessions at this location and I think it would be fabulous for a winter engagement session.
This session was photographed at 430pm in October with late day full sun. I used my Nikon D4 and 70-200mm mostly at 200mm and f2.3 – f.4.5
A great spot here that was not easy to get to, but made for a nice photo among the willows and fallen trees.
Another spot here with the sun hitting the background just below the bridge where the ground was just hard enough to stand on.
I try and tell my couples that picking a spot for an engagement session is as easy as walking the streets of a really great neighbourhood.
Great photographs are not about the location but about the moments you have together and the location is a bonus.
They couldn’t resist doing a little baseball themed photos as well since that’s their favourite thing to do together. So, at the end of the session we went over to the ball diamond while the sun was setting.
The last shot of the day as the sun sets on Thanksgiving weekend.
