I met these two professionals in Hamilton and I was looking forward to this journalistic engagement session because it was different and the day was absolutely gorgeous. I made my way to Hamilton where we started the session at their home, then we went to the Hamilton bridge for some scenic photos and then the next location was his family farm in Dundas for engagement pictures including a vineyard, barn, swing, vintage white house with stone and gorgeous laneways. I loved that he started in a suit and she wore two different dresses as it made the locations so much more interesting with the contrast. I got that she was going for a classier look even though we were going to a farm and it wasn’t going to be a rustic farm engagement session at all which I loved by the way.
Congratulations! Mac and Deaner…can’t wait for your Hamilton Art Gallery wedding.
Documentary style photography at home is where we started. This is the alley next door with these great puddles of water everywhere.
Mac could pose like no one else……the way she stood and leaned and looked was a dream for me. I just needed to keep shooting and shooting….seamlessly easy.
annnnd then over to the other side of the house we had this gorgeous scene with lilacs everywhere
The request was for a photo in front of their home and this girl knew how to stand not only in a dress but for great photographs.
Then they said “can we go to the bridge?” and immediately I think lots of cars yikes, but at least I know i’ve got good light. This was the sidewalk leading towards the big stone bridge with the cute lamp posts and the stunning view.
Then I had them stop right here in the middle of the bridge and just hang out together. I put them in a position where the light would frame their face and took pictures while traffic whizzed by next to us. Contrasty harsh light is my absolute favourite and I live for sunny days like these.
Then of course, like any other creative I wanted to go under the bridge. I didn’t need to go that far and she was wearing really cute heels after all and I just couldn’t do that to her. This spot was all I needed for a completely different look. We are still on the bridge just behind the guardrail.
Then of course I needed to get above them somehow so I crawled on top of the cement wall to get this vantage point. Anytime i can get above my couples I go for it.
The wind was fierce and difficult to really play with to our advantage, but still great moments were had.
Literally lying in the grass for this portrait
Deaner has a family farm which was our intention for the whole session to begin with, but Mac wanted a nice place and not so much a farm feel. i got that when she showed me her two outfits……..definitely classy all the way with these two.
Engagement photos with a swing? come on now? when does that ever happen? This farm was incredible for photos with beautiful laneways, pond, green fields, flowers, vintage house ect ect. I could shoot here many more times and get something completely different.
Oh and did I mention the vineyard with the red barn in the background? When I say i was giddy with this session! It’s because of the couple the light and all the locations we went to.
Just a tiny little pink flower bush in the middle of the lawn.
