The Old Mill and Etienne Brule Park engagement session. This bridge needs to be in pictures and with the river, path and forests it’s an ideal location for photography. I had been here once before and knew that I needed my clients to where colour as there is a lot of green here and with an overcast day it was really important to add a pop of interest. She wore beautiful orange red and a blue top for her photos and it just worked.
Any time I get the chance to shoot from above or a different perspective I take advantage. Now, most men don’t like the top of their heads photographed but with a little coaxing we made this happen.
Walking just a few feet from the parking lot and this bridge calls to you to be photographed in the background. It’s just so European and pretty and it’s too bad you can’t access it from the other side safely to be able to get the sun setting, but maybe the water levels will be lower in the fall.
I keep my couples in motion for the most natural photos as most people don’t like a certain angle or aspect of they faces. We all feel that way right? Here, you’ll see the many many different images i can get with just a little direction and movement from my bride.
I have to force myself to remember to grab a face forward image every now and then as well because they will want this too. As much as they hire me for the creativity everyone deserves a traditional portrait too.
Just moved to the tall grasses here and shot through the weeds to frame my clients.
and again, just a simple twist of their heads and it’s another photo.
by now, they’ve got the hang of it and all I have to do is shoot and get them to create their own reactions, giggles or laughter.
here it comes……
a serious look……
I tell him to squeeze her tighter tighter and tighter and these are the images I can get.
instantly this happens……
then this and she’s forgotten about me for just 1 sec and it’s natural…….
I tell all my brides to move and use their fiances as props and I tell all my grooms to just pay attention their brides and ignore me unless asked.
ohhhh the almost kiss…. by the end of the session they are pros at “the almost kiss” which is my favourite so that the noses don’t get squished in a normal kiss and you can almost feel the anticipation.
Here he is being a prop again and she is just walking around him and holding him in as many ways as she can.
Here is one instance when I asked him to look at me and for her to ignore the camera.
I asked them to go and sit on the bench in the most comfortable way possible pretending that i wasn’t here and they were on a date.
I like to do a lot of waking shots because it’s natural, journalistic and gets my clients out of the posing mentality.
They’re going to know why I ask them to do this over and over a couple times now.
One of my favourite moments from this session…… they were so great and emotional during the “almost kiss” that I decided to get in close for this shot and I LOVE IT!
